The first two things to figure out when buying a water feature are the water and the power. In most cases, the water feature has a reservoir, so you don’t need a continuous source of water. You just need to fill it up and top it off occasionally. Because it’s not a great idea to have stagnant water in your garden or yard, most water features have a pump that moves the water. Unless you buy a model that uses solar power, you will need a source of electricity to power the pump.
The Sound
The point of a water feature is to add the soothing and relaxing sound of running water to your garden. But if that sound is more annoying than soothing, that defeats the purpose of adding a water feature to your garden in the first place. Before you buy and install any water feature, listen to it first. You want something that mimics the sound of a running stream or babbling brook. If that’s what you hear, that’s great!
